Zinfandel Estate Iron Man-Stuffed Burgers with Zin Sauce



Pairing: 2009 Zinfandel, Estate Iron Man Vineyard

Ingredients: Serves 4

1.5 Pounds ground beef
1 1/2 Packages dry onion soup mix
1 Teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 Cups minced red onion
1.5 Cups chopped cooked bacon
1-2 Cups Chumeia Zinfandel
8 Ounces crumbled blue cheese
12 Ounces sliced mushrooms
2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
3 Teaspoons minced garlic
4 Ounces cubed Gruyere chesse
4 Rustic bread rolls
 


Instructions:

  1. Preheat your grill and coat with olive oil.
  2. Mix these ingredients by hand: beef, soup mix, 1 cup onion, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Shape 8 equal size patties. Place half Gruyere cheese and bacon in center of 4 patties, top with other 4 patties. Press and seal edges. 
  3. Heat olive oil in skillet and saute 1 cup of onion until soft. Add mushrooms, garlic and stir for 4-5 minutes. Pour broth and Zinfandel and simmer reducing by half.
  4. Cook burgers to your liking. Top burgers with blue cheese and melt. Place burgers on rolls and top with the Zinfandel sauce.
